Maya + Ian’s Design-Heavy, Unique Ceremony in the Woods and Fly Dance Party at Mill Valley Community Center

We are so pumped to share this incredibly vibrant wedding with you! Maya and Ian came to us with a strong vision steeped in design details. Maya, a super talented graphic designer, wowed us with her own ideas for the wedding. Using brick reds and blues, she curated a vibe that was in line with her and Ian’s aesthetics and personality. One of the most original ideas we’ve ever seen: Maya created a newspaper to tell people about their love story. Guests received this in advance of the wedding, and again on the wedding day.

The couple was blessed with a gorgeous and warm Marin County day. In the cathedral of redwoods at the Amphitheater at Old Mill Park in Mill Valley, these two walked into a pampas grass-filled arch by Shannon La Voie of Rare Sparrow. We also loved the crushed velvet worn by Maya’s bridesmaids by the brand Revelry. In shades of navy blue, emerald, romantic rose, terracotta, desert blue, blush, mustard, and olive, her ladies looked cohesive… and stunning! To top it off the couple left the ceremony atop a vintage 90s Porsche for epic picture taking at Mt. Tamalpais with Ryan and Gina.

Back at the cocktail hour and reception at the Mill Valley Community Center (a gem of a venue by the way!) Maya again wowed guests with escort cards, more amazing signage, and a colorful linen palette. Not to mention major Instagram backdrops, including one behind their sweetheart table that read “At Long Last” created in tandem with our frequent collaborator and fabricator buddies at Boovara Designs

Guests were treated to a buffet by San Francisco favorite, Pakwan, complete with mango lassi and other Indian treats. And then the piece de resistance--a major surprise care of Maya--who surprised Ian with a choreographed dance. Wearing blazers and bike shorts with a distinct 90s, Fly Girl vibe, Maya and her dance crew rocked it. And the crowd went wild! And so did we. Unique, original, and full of flavor in every sense of the word, Maya and Ian scored majorly with a wedding that was one for the books.

What we did:

  • Ran ceremony rehearsal

  • Advised a ton on the logistics of moving people (especially shuttle busses from ceremony to reception)

  • Talking design execution with the bride

  • Reconciling what the venue provided and what needed to be supplemented

  • Floor planning with their caterer

  • Making vendor suggestions and referrals (Rare Sparrow; Boovara)

On the day and night of the event, Lily Spruce:

  • Placing all the signage

  • Providing a refreshment station at the ceremony site

  • Coordinated all vendors throughout the day and night

  • Made sure vendors were fed

  • Dispersed gratuities

  • Conducted everything on the timeline

  • Prompted the toasters

  • Set up the guest book and gathered centerpieces for guests to take home

  • Loaded gifts, food and decor items into Maya and Ian’s car
